What is important for you?

Enable statisticians to influence evidence-based decisions in healthcare!

Alexander Schacht

As a father, I want to have the right evidence to make sound treatment decisions for my kids.
As a son, I want to give good advice to my mother about her therapy because I can access the right data.
As a husband, I want to have confidence in providing advice on treatments based on well communicated studies.
As a patient myself, I want to have meaningful discussions with my physician based on relevant evidence.

I received a PhD in biostatistics, worked 20+ years as a statistician in all phases of clinical research in both pharma and CRO, and created my own company to build a community of like minded statisticians, data scientists, programmers and other quantitative researchers.

I believe that we, as quantitative scientists, must play a bigger role in healthcare. We must influence our organisations, our industry, and our society to create and demand sound evidence.

As a statistician, I help you…

… to reach your potential, lead great science, and serve patients while having a great work-life balance.

Together with other expert statisticians, data scientists, and programmers, I develop and implement free resources (podcast, blog, social media, newsletter, webinars) and paid trainings (workshops, online courses, in-person trainings). These help you with all aspects of your work life:

  • become an influential statistician and successful leader,
  • learn about the latest innovative statistical approaches,
  • understand your organization, business, and industry, and
  • achieve excellence in your work.

I can help you,

when you value great content, want to collaborate with other statisticians/data scientists/programmers, and act on what you learn.

I’m passionate about creating a world in which researchers, executives, regulators, payers, physicians, and patients access the right evidence at the right moment in the right format to make the right decisions for the benefit of patients.

I strongly believe that statisticians and other quantitative scientists need to become more influential in achieving this vision. Thus, I invest a lot of effort in training statisticians at all levels to become better leaders, supervisors, and executives. I also love to collaborate with experts in the biometrics space to help them share their knowledge.

Dr. Alexander Schacht

Where I am coming from…

I’m a statistician who turned into a podcaster, leadership trainer, community builder, course creator, and entrepreneur.

I founded The Effective Statistician while working full-time and turned it into a successful business that I’m now fully dedicated to.

I studied mathematics and received my PhD in biostatistics on non-parametric statistics from the University of Göttingen in Germany in 2002. I authored more than 70 scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and regularly speak at medical and statistical national and international conferences.

With more than 20 years of experience working as a statistician in healthcare, Alexander worked primarily on phase IIIb and IV (RCT, observational studies, HTA submission, commercialisation work) with some regulatory work, as well as some work within the early phases of clinical development.

I worked for academia, pharma, and CROs as an individual contributor, group leader, and executive leadership team member.

This made me become a student of leadership, which helps me in my professional and personal life.

I’m interested in a broad range of methodological areas focusing specifically on helping pharmaceutical and biotech companies make better, data-driven decisions.

I chaired the EFSPI/SPI special interest group (SIG) on benefit-risk, founded and chaired the data visualisation SIG and the Launch and Lifecycle SIG. I served PSI as a board director responsible for communications.

I’m a happy husband and father of three wonderful kids. They are a source of joy and passion. They inspire me to work on my vision to create better evidence to help patients worldwide. In my spare time, I love BBQ, running, and listening to podcasts.

Global vs Local

Have you ever wondered about the complexities that arise within pharmaceutical companies due to the division between global and local operations? Why do these realms often operate with such distinct perspectives, and how do they impact our mission to deliver effective healthcare solutions globally?
