Interview with Eva Murray and Andy Kriebel

How do you create impactful data visualization?
How do you effectively understand and communicate your data?

This episode helps you to explore different perspectives and approaches to create more effective visualizations. Andy and Eva from MakeoverMonday offer inspiration and a dose of perspective for those who communicate data.

Today, I talk with these two awesome visualization experts – Eva and Andy. They have written great content about data analysis and visualization on their blog and of course in their book. We discuss the following important points:

  • How to create effective visualizations
  • How to communicate your data
  • How people benefit from great visualizations and MakeoverMonday

Eva Murray

Eva is a Tableau Zen Master, and passionate about helping others grow their skills and enhance their professional careers.

Eva first became fascinated with data and information visualisation while studying Psychology in New Zealand and lived through the pain of analysing data in Excel at the start of her professional career. Thankfully, she was given a Tableau Desktop license after moving to Australia and things grew from there.

Eva now lives and works in Germany as Head of BI and Tableau Evangelist at EXASOL. She executes Exasol’s data-driven strategy, engages with the wider data and analytics community and leads the company’s philanthropic projects. Eva writes about data visualisation, Tableau and her other two passions – Travel and Triathlon (or just cycling) – on www.trimydata.com.

Andy Kriebel

Andy is a five-time Tableau Zen Master and creator of vizwiz.com, which he started in August 2009 to provide examples of data visualization best practices, methods for improving existing work, and tips and tricks with Tableau.

If you go all the way back to the start of his blog, you’ll notice he’s been doing makeovers since that time. Andy believes makeovers are great way to learn, practice and reinforce data visualisation best practices while learning to work with lots of different data sets.

Andy is the Head Coach at The Information Lab Data School and writes three weekly series: Makeover Monday, Tableau Tip Tuesday and Workout Wednesday. He also writes at datavizdoneright.com, a site created to highlight data visualisation best practices.
